These Terms of Service (the “Terms”) form a legal agreement between you and the operator of Arc Reader (“Arc Reader,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) governing your use of the Arc Reader mobile applications, websites, APIs, and related services (collectively, the “Service”).
Please read them carefully. If you do not agree, do not install or use the Service.
01Acceptance & eligibility
By downloading, accessing, or using the Service, you confirm that you have read these Terms, our Privacy Policy, and our Copyright Policy, and that you accept all of them. If you are using the Service on behalf of an organization, you represent that you have authority to bind that organization to these Terms.
You must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum age required in your country to consent to data processing) to use the Service. If you are a minor under the age of majority in your jurisdiction, you may only use the Service with the involvement of a parent or legal guardian.
02The service, briefly
Arc Reader is a personal reading client. Given a public web URL that you supply, the Service will resolve the title, author, cover, and chapter list, and let you read or listen to those chapters offline on your device. The Service also provides organisational tools (collections, highlights, progress sync, text-to-speech, listen mode, and similar features).
Arc Reader does not host, publish, sell, or distribute novels. We are a user agent — software that fetches and renders content you have chosen, on your behalf, from sources you specify.
You point the app at a chapter on the open web. The app fetches it for you, the same way a browser would — and stores it locally so you can read it on the train.
03Accounts & guest mode
You may use the Service in guest mode without creating an account. In guest mode, a device-scoped token is issued so that your reading progress and library can persist between launches.
You may also register an account using an email address. With a registered account, your library and progress sync across devices, and your data can be recovered if you lose or replace your phone.
You are responsible for safeguarding any credentials associated with your account, and for all activity that occurs under it. Notify us promptly at trongthien18@gmail.com if you suspect unauthorised access.
You may delete your account at any time from within the app (Settings → Account → Delete account). Deletion is irreversible and removes your synced library, progress, highlights, and any unredeemed coin balance.
04Third-party content
The chapters, covers, and metadata you view inside the Service originate from third-party websites that you choose. We do not control, endorse, screen, or moderate that content. The accuracy, legality, and quality of third-party content is the responsibility of the source publisher and, where relevant, the user who supplied the URL.
You are solely responsible for ensuring that you have the right to access and store the content you import. Some sources require a subscription, place restrictions on personal copies, or prohibit automated retrieval entirely; respect those rules when using the Service.
If you believe content accessible through the Service infringes your copyright, please follow the procedure in our Copyright & Takedown Policy. We will act promptly on valid notices and may, at our discretion, restrict or remove the offending source from the Service for all users.
05Acceptable use
You agree not to use the Service to:
- infringe the intellectual-property, privacy, publicity, or contractual rights of any person;
- access content you are not lawfully entitled to read, including paywalled material you have not paid for;
- circumvent technical protection measures, rate limits, paywalls, geo-restrictions, or access controls;
- redistribute, republish, sell, or commercialise downloaded chapters in any form;
- scrape, mirror, or rehost the Service or any portion of it without our written permission;
- upload malware, run automated traffic at abusive volume, or otherwise interfere with the Service’s operation;
- reverse-engineer the Service except to the extent permitted by mandatory law;
- exploit, harm, or attempt to exploit minors in any way;
- use the Service to send spam, harassment, or unlawful communications.
We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these rules, with or without notice.
06Intellectual property
The Service, including its source code, design, branding, copy, illustrations, fonts, audio, and underlying technology, is owned by us or our licensors and is protected by intellectual-property laws. We grant you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the Service for your own non-commercial reading.
The name “Arc Reader,” the Arc Reader wordmark, and the spine-and-shelf icon are trademarks. You may not use them in a way that suggests endorsement without our written permission.
Open-source components included in the Service are licensed under their respective licences, listed in our Open-source attributions.
07Subscriptions & billing
Arc Reader offers an optional paid subscription (the Candlelight tier) that unlocks unlimited batch downloads, premium cloud voices, monthly coin grants, and an ad-free experience. Subscriptions are sold on a monthly or annual basis, at the prices displayed in the app at the time of purchase.
All purchases are processed through your platform billing account — Apple App Store on iOS and Google Play on Android — and are handled on our behalf by RevenueCat. The terms of those platforms also apply to your purchase.
Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period at the then-current price unless you cancel at least 24 hours before renewal. You can manage and cancel subscriptions at any time from your platform’s account settings:
- iOS — Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions;
- Android — Google Play app → Profile → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions.
A free trial, where offered, converts to a paid subscription at the end of the trial unless cancelled. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period; you keep premium access until then. Downloaded chapters remain on your device after cancellation.
We may change the price of subscriptions from time to time. Changes will not take effect for your existing renewal unless we notify you in advance and you continue the subscription past the change date.
08Coins & virtual items
“Coins” are an in-app virtual currency used to pay for batch downloads on the free plan. You can earn coins through daily check-ins, optional rewarded ads, and monthly subscription grants.
Coins have no monetary value. They cannot be redeemed for cash, transferred between accounts, traded, or sold. Coins are personal to your account, are licensed to you (not sold), and may expire if your account is inactive for an extended period or if we discontinue the coin system on reasonable notice.
We may adjust coin prices, earning rates, expiration rules, and the catalogue of paid actions at any time. Unredeemed coins are forfeited on account deletion or termination for cause.
09Refunds
Because purchases are processed through Apple and Google, refund requests must be submitted to those platforms directly:
- App Store — reportaproblem.apple.com;
- Google Play — Google Play refund request.
Where local consumer-protection laws (for example, the EU 14-day cooling-off right) entitle you to a refund directly from us, we will honour those rights. Contact trongthien18@gmail.com with your order details and we will assist.
10Disclaimers
To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Service is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, statutory, or otherwise — including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, and quiet enjoyment.
We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or free from harmful components, or that any chapter, cover, or metadata will be accurate, complete, or available at the source you provided. Source websites change, disappear, or restrict access without notice; the Service’s ability to fetch content is dependent on those third parties.
11Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Arc Reader and its officers, directors, employees, and contractors will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, revenues, data, goodwill, or other intangible losses, arising out of or relating to your use of (or inability to use) the Service.
Our aggregate liability for all claims relating to the Service in any rolling twelve-month period shall not exceed the greater of (a) the amount you paid us for the Service during that period or (b) USD 50.
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of certain damages; in those jurisdictions the limitations above apply only to the extent permitted.
12Indemnity
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Arc Reader and its personnel from any claim, demand, loss, or expense (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of (i) your use of the Service, (ii) your breach of these Terms, (iii) the URLs, content, or material you submit to the Service, or (iv) your violation of any law or third-party right.
13Termination
You may stop using the Service at any time by uninstalling the app or deleting your account. We may suspend or terminate your access immediately, without notice, if you breach these Terms, if we are required to do so by law, or if continued provision becomes commercially or technically impractical.
Sections that by their nature should survive termination — including intellectual-property, disclaimers, limitation of liability, indemnity, and governing law — will continue to apply.
14Changes to these terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. When we make a material change, we will revise the “Effective” date at the top of the page and, where reasonably possible, notify you in-app or by email at least 14 days before the change takes effect. Continued use of the Service after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
15Governing law & disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute arising out of or in connection with the Service shall be resolved by the competent courts of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, except where mandatory consumer-protection laws of your country of residence give you the right to sue (or be sued) in your local courts.
Nothing in these Terms restricts statutory rights you may have as a consumer that cannot be waived by contract.
